Join the tradition that started in 1878 and continues to this day! Hear the resounding boom of two-pound cannons firing daily (excluding Tuesdays) at 1 pm from the historic Fort Scratchley. The practice originated in seafaring ports around the world in the 19th century and is still used to help sea captains adjust their navigation instruments.
But that’s not all – our cannon fire coincides with the ball on Customs House dropping to mark time in Newcastle. Come, witness this unforgettable spectacle and feel the thrill of history come to life!
